Just off the coast is Ningaloo Reef, where you can dive and snorkel among the colourful fish or see whale sharks from glass-bottomed boats. Visit Jurabi Turtle Centre to learn about turtles and their habitat or take a guided tour to view hatchlings during nesting season.

Spend some time at Cape Range National Park, where 50,000 hectares of spectacular mountains and canyons are home to kangaroos, emus and rock wallabies. The tranquil gorge of Yardie Peak is a highlight of the park, and its multicoloured cliff walls are best seen from a guided boat tour. If you’re a keen birdwatcher, the Mangrove Bay Bird Hide is a great place to see mangrove fantails, kites and ospreys.
