Flowing north from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, Niagara River is a 58-kilometre-long waterway home to the world-renowned Niagara Falls. It forms the border between Ontario and the United States while encompassing the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Power Station and the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant.
Stroll along the Peace Bridge, which connects the United States and Canada and is where the Niagara River begins its journey. Soak up the riverfront views from Unity Island Park or watch vessels coming and going through the Black Rock Lock, then wander the waterfront trail of Black Rock Canal Park.
Continue north to Grand Island, which is the largest island in the Niagara River and connected by the truss-arched South Grand Island Bridge. The river continues past the Fort Niagara State Park, where it flows into Lake Ontario.
Getting there
The Niagara River extends between the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and the city of Buffalo. Buffalo Niagara International Airport is a 20-minute drive from Buffalo, while Niagara Falls International Airport is a 35-minute drive from Niagara-on-the-Lake.
