Things to do in High Fens - Eifel Nature Park
In the springtime, the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park is famed for its colourful bulbs, daffodils in particular. Bright yellow flowers carpet the valleys of the Olef, Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach Rivers and you can see the daffodils by walking the park’s marked paths, or by taking a guided flower tour with one of the park’s knowledgeable conservationists.
The park’s ecosystems support a wealth of wildlife, including several rare species. Take your binoculars, camera and patience and set out on a walk to spot violet copper butterfly, dipper songbirds and beaver. The beaver build their dams along the river banks, and the Rur River is a hotspot for them.
Getting there
The park straddles the German-Belgium border and is accessible by road from both countries. If you are staying locally, you are entitled to a special Gäste Ticket which gives you free bus and rail travel in the Eifel area.
