About Katsina

Katsina State is a captivating pocket of Nigeria where you can discover ancient historic sites, explore royal palaces and savour delicious local cuisine. Dive into the state’s rich Muslim and Islamic heritage or head to the state-of-the-art football stadium to cheer on local Nigerian teams.

Things to do

In Katsina City, you’ll find some of the best restaurants in Nigeria. Eat your way through local delicacies such as pepper soup, pounded yams, beef stew and Jollof rice flavoured with tomatoes, onions and aromatic spices. Towering over Katsina City, Gobarau Minaret recalls Nigeria’s Islamic past. The minaret once topped a beautiful mosque built in the late 14th century from honey-coloured stone.

Katsina Emir Palace is another historic gem and one of the most beautiful examples of Hausa architecture in the country. It was built in the 15th century and housed Muslim kings for centuries. Exploring the residence, you can peer into royal chambers, admire colourful African artwork and view ancient relics, including swords, bronzes and musical instruments.

Located in the ancient town of Daura, Kusugu Well has been providing the local population with water since the 7th century. Legend says the water has therapeutic properties that can cure illnesses and ailments. Nearby is Emir Palace Daura, a handsome royal residence built from sun-baked clay in the 7th century.

Nigerians love football and Karkanda Stadium is a great place to experience the country’s favourite sport. The stadium is home to the Katsina United FC, which often plays home games against other teams in the Nigerian Professional Football League. Wear green and yellow, the official Katsina team colours.
