Encompassing large tracts of heath and farmland, the Lüneburg Heath is a popular holiday destination in Lower Saxony. It’s dotted with charming villages of thatched-roof houses and scenic nature reserves and is home to one of Germany’s most famous amusement parks.
You can stretch your legs on the network of hiking trails that wind through Lüneburg Heath Nature Park, with a highlight being the views on offer from the Wilseder Berg. In the southern part of the region is Südheide Nature Park, a traditional region for heath beekeeping where heather honey is produced.

Getting there
The Lüneburg Heath is a 35-minute drive from Hamburg and about an hour from Hamburg Airport. Trains stop at the Wintermoor railway station on the western edge of the heath. Having your own vehicle is the most convenient way of exploring the region.
