About Setesdal

Setesdal is a picturesque valley dotted with charming towns and villages. Scenic roads wind through the valley and take you past flower-filled meadows and villages filled with thatched roof houses.

The area is known for Norwegian folk traditions and is a great place to experience the country through a local lens. Visit the excellent Setesdal Museum to find out more about the unique culture. You’ll learn about traditional Hardanger fiddles and colourful Setesdalbunad costumes.

The first silversmiths appeared in Setesdal more than 100 years ago and have been forging beautiful jewellery ever since. Find some of the best artisan workshops in Evje, Rysstad and Valle.

Built in 1866, Bjoren is a beautifully restored wood-fuelled steamboat that cruises around Byglandsfjord. You can enjoy fantastic views of the cobalt-blue fjord and the Setesdal valley. The four-hour return hike to Gloppefoss Waterfall takes you to one of the highest waterfalls in the area. Downhill mountain bike trails and white-water rafting trips along the Otra River will get your pulse racing.

Setesdal is located in Southern Norway, a 4.5-hour drive from Stavanger. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Setesdal at your own pace. Oslo Airport is a 5.5-hour drive away.
