Discover a diverse landscape of mountains, forests and waterways in Shei-Pa National Park. The park occupies more than 750 square kilometres and features a wide range of ecosystems, including lush, low-lying valleys and peaks that soar more than 3,800 metres above sea level.
Hiking trails wind through the park and immerse you in the wild landscapes. Some take you through mist-cloaked valleys and others skirt rocky mountain crests. The popular Holy Ridge Trail is lined with junipers. There’s a chance to spot native wildlife, including monkeys, black bears and endangered Taiwan broad-tailed swallowtails.
Many of the rugged peaks in Shei-Pa National Park are starting points for major waterways across Taiwan, including the Danshui, Dajia and Da-an Rivers. Experienced hikers and climbers can summit Xueshan, one of the tallest mountains in the country. Just beneath the summit is a glacial cirque, a rare geological feature created by glacier action.
Getting there
Shei-Pa National Park sprawls across Hsinchu County, Miaoli County and parts of Taichung City. Rental cars are the easiest way to access and explore the park, while public transport access is via the TRA to Yilan or Luodong Stations. From here, buses transport you to Wuling Farm stop, a popular entry point to the park.
