Ajman has a laid-back vibe with plenty of history, culture and Emirati traditions to soak up. You can laze around on the palm-lined sandy beach, stroll along the breezy oceanfront promenade or visit a string of fascinating museums.
Things to do in Ajman
Housed in an 18th-century fort, the Ajman Museum is a fantastic place to discover the emirate's colourful past. Inside you'll find a collection of historic photographs, ancient weapons and archaeological artefacts. You can also admire lavish Emirati funeral jewellery found in an excavated cemetery in the Al Muwaihat area.
From early morning jogs to sunset strolls, the Ajman Corniche is always buzzing with activity. It's a popular weekend destination for families and is lined with food stalls, coffee vendors and souvenir shops. It's also fringed by some of the city's most luxurious hotels.
The Ajman Corniche Mosque watches over the seafront. A vision of white, the striking building is topped by an elegant dome and soaring minarets. In the evening, the grassy foreshore in front of the mosque is a scenic place to enjoy a picnic or barbecue.
The mighty Red Fort was raised during the reign of Sheikh Humaid bin Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi using gravel and red plaster, which gives the stronghold a fiery red hue. Walk around the grounds, climb the watchtowers and gaze up at the huge sandalwood beams.
Getting around Ajman
The best way to explore the Emirate of Ajman is by car or by hailing a taxi. You can drive to Sharjah in around 15 minutes or Dubai in 30 minutes. Sharjah International is the closest airport, located 20 kilometres from Ajman.
