We (my son and I) were flying back from Kenya on the KQ 'midnight flight' and needed a stopover in JHB before flying on to PE in the morning. I chose the Southern Sun because of it's proximity to the airport. When I booked I thought that it was directly connected to the terminal building and that we could simply step out of 'arrivals' and into the hotel foyer. However, when we arrived at OR Tambo (just after midnight) we found that not to be the case and we were told we needed to take a taxi as, although the hotel was not far it was not safe to walk there at that time of night and the shuttle buses had probably stopped for the night. I was rather dismayed at this... We took a chance and walked through to where the shuttles leave from and found the Southern Sun shuttle bus ready to take us, complete with friendly and courteous driver! Checking in was quick and easy. The room was very good and the beds were very comfortable. My one regret was that we had to leave early to get our flight to PE so we could not take full advantage of the breakfast on offer! The shuttle took us back to the terminal in good time and my earlier worries about having to rely on someone else to get us to the airport were unfounded.
