Bonn is located within the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, situated on the banks of the river Rhine in the southern aspect of the Rhine-Ruhr region. Bonn is one of Germany’s largest cities and most notably the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and in applicable fashion offers some of the most notable Baroque-style landmarks in the country.
The highlight of Bonn is the city’s exclusive Beethoven-Haus, a transformed museum from the building where the great musician was born and raised. From 1949 to 1991, Bonn served as the temporary capital city of Germany until Berlin was officially selected. The two cities currently share the seat of the country’s presiding government.
