About Enterprise, AL

Famed for its monument dedicated to an insect pest, Enterprise is a laid-back city in Alabama’s Coffee County. It’s home to leafy green spaces, a community college and an engaging history museum while it’s also on the doorstep of the United States Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker.

Things to do in Enterprise

One of Enterprise’s most unique attractions is the Boll Weevil Monument, which features a woman holding a pedestal with a large boll weevil on top. It was created in honour of this humble insect, which infested the town’s cotton crops in 1915. As a result, local farmers began to grow peanuts and the town flourished as one of the leading peanut producers in the United States.

You can learn more about Enterprise’s history at the Depot Museum, which occupies a quaint railway depot built in 1900 by the Alabama Midland Railway. Browse its collection of period garments, agricultural tools and furniture dating from the 19th century to the present day, together with vintage medical implements donated by Coffee County doctors.

Want to stretch your legs? Head to John Henderson Family Park, a recreational green space located just north of the city centre. In addition to walking trails, grassy lawns and picnic pavilions, it features a children’s playground with a splash pad where you can cool off in the summer months. Combine your visit to the park with a stop at the Two By Two Petting Zoo, which is home to sheep, ponies and alpacas.
