About Fornebu

Once home to Oslo’s main airport, Fornebu is a peninsular community overlooking the Inner Oslofjord. It’s been transformed into a residential and recreational area, featuring beautiful beaches, nature reserves and coastal cycling trails.

In the heart of Fornebu is Nansen Park, which opened in 2008 on the site of the old airport and is named after the polar explorer and humanitarian, Fridtjof Nansen, who lived nearby. Take note of the airport control tower as you stroll along the central waterway and check to see what’s taking place at the Festival Plaza, an open-air amphitheatre with its own cafe.

If you’re visiting in the summer months, cool off with a swim at Storøyodden, a wide stretch of sand that’s backed by a grassy area ideal for sunbathing. Make the short walk to the Storøykilen nature reserve and its bird-filled wetland or enjoy one of the eco-activities at the Lilløyplassen Naturhus.

Getting there

Fornebu is a 15-minute drive from Oslo or about an hour from Oslo Airport. Buses are the main means of getting to and from the peninsula, although having your own car will give you greater freedom to explore.
