About Luster

Luster is a picturesque village surrounded by mountains, glaciers and fjords. It’s perched on the banks of Sognefjorden and immerses you in the rugged natural beauty of Norway. Visit tumbling waterfalls, hike alpine trails and admire one of the oldest stave churches in Norway.

Things to do in Luster

Luster is a great base for visiting sights and attractions strung along the banks of Sognefjorden. At 218 metres high, Feigumfoss Waterfall is one of the tallest in Scandinavia. Hike up to the top of the waterfall for spectacular views over the surrounding mountains. The nearby Urnes Stave Church is one of the oldest in Norway and dates back to the 1100s.

Luster is a launchpad to Jostedalsbreen National Park, a protected wilderness area where you can discover turquoise alpine lakes and shimmering glaciers. Don’t miss the chance to hike up to Jostedalsbreen, one of the largest and most impressive glaciers in mainland Europe.

Breheimen National Park protects dramatic glacier-carved landscapes and offers some of Norway’s most challenging hikes. Not all trails are well-marked, making Breheimen National Park a destination for experienced hikers only.

For a livelier scene, base yourself in the nearby village of Gaupne. It’s the administrative centre of the region and offers a good range of services and amenities. Set sail on a scenic cruise along the fjord or rent a kayak and enjoy a leisurely paddle. In summer, cafes and restaurants will tempt you with dishes featuring local strawberries, raspberries and cherries. You can also enjoy mountain-raised deer and fish caught in the fjord.
