Beaches in Torrevieja attract outdoor enthusiasts, particularly Playa del Cura with its urban strip of golden sand, small shops and art galleries. Stroll over to the pier, known as Dique de Levante Breakwater, to see Torrevieja Lighthouse and the famous female statue waving goodbye to a sailor. Drive about 10 minutes to Punta Prima to browse its boutiques, trendy bars and eateries.

Stop by Museum of Sea and Salt to learn about the city’s history in fishing and salt mining, with vintage photographs, model boats and salt-industry artefacts on display. The floating museums of Torrevieja are housed in three ships and showcase exhibits related to former days of custom surveillance patrols, salt selling and submarine duties.

Travelling with little ones? Enjoy train rides at Jardin de las Naciones or spend an afternoon at Aquapark Flamingo, one of three water parks in the city. Head inland to Lagunas de la Mata-Torrevieja Nature Park for hiking, swimming and water sports at its two colourful salt lakes. Watch the sunset at Laguna Salada, a shimmering pink lake dotted with pink flamingos.

Grazing on fresh seafood tapas is a must in Torrevieja, starting with fish croquettes at La Mar Sala and tapas and beer at La Bodeguilla del Mullins. Located in the heart of Waterwheel Natural Park is the grounded Queen Mississippi vessel, which serves cocktails, paella, grilled meat and seafood.

Getting around

Buses, shuttles and taxis offer transportation around Torrevieja. You can rent a car in the city or at Murcia-San Javier Airport, about 32 kilometres away.
