Truly immerse yourself in the ancient architecture and traditions at Toucheng Township by wandering along Toucheng Old Street. This historic neighbourhood is filled with traditional gates and houses, along with the remarkable Sea Goddess Temple. Afterwards, visit the informative Toucheng Township History Hall to see its classic interior decor and ancient artefacts.

Do you love seeing nature? Venture out to the Wufengqi Waterfall, which can be reached by walking through lush mountain rainforest. There are numerous trails to choose from, including the Linmei Shipan Trail and Shengmu Hiking Trail, many of which also lead to hot springs and babbling brooks. Don’t miss exploring the nearby Catholic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Wufengqi, which has panoramic mountain vistas.

If you’re craving some coastal spoils, head up to Waiao Beach, which is a popular spot for surfing and sunbathing. Along with surf clothing stores and waterfront cafes, you can find locally-run restaurants, such as Shaka Paradise, known for its burgers, seafood and cocktails.

Venture out from the coast to the alluring Guishan Island, also known as Turtle Island due to its population of turtles that frequent it most months. It’s also a perfect spot for whale watching and is home to the 401 Height hiking area, which features revered temples and 360-degree coastal vistas.

Getting around

Toucheng Township is about one hour’s drive from Taipei Songshan Airport, which has domestic flights and services to China, Japan and South Korea. You can also catch the North Railway Line to Toucheng station. The best way to get around Toucheng Township is by renting a bicycle, car or motorbike.
