Arrochar is a down-to-earth village set between Loch Long and the rugged Arrochar Alps. Its location in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park makes it a fantastic base for hiking, cycling and birdwatching in the Scottish Highlands.
Lace up your boots and explore the scenic trails that wind through Argyll Forest Park. Most are family-friendly and take you past shimmering lakes and through sun-dappled woodlands. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch at the Jubilee Point picnic site by Lock Eck. Mountaineers and serious hikers can summit peaks like Ben Ime and Ben Arthur, two of the tallest mountains in the Arrochar Alps.
In Arrochar’s town centre, you’ll find an excellent selection of cosy cafes, pubs and taverns. After a day of exploring the Scottish Highlands, return to town for haggis, neeps, tatties and a glass of single malt whiskey. There are also some lovely art studios and galleries in town where you can pick up unique souvenirs.
Getting there
Arrochar is located on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, a one-hour drive from Glasgow and two hours from Edinburgh. Arrochar & Tarbet Train Station on the West Highland Line is a five-minute drive from Arrochar’s town centre.
