Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) is one of Indonesia's signature sporting venues, capable of hosting 76,000 spectators. It was built for the 1962 Asian Games, but today it's used mostly for football matches played by the National Football Team of Indonesia, including the prestigious 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
As well as a football field, the newly renovated Aquatic Stadium at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium features four enormous pools. You'll also find basketball courts, tennis courts and other modern sporting facilities. The stadium’s high-speed Wi-Fi keeps you connected throughout your visit.
Don’t forget to explore the grounds, which feature grassy lawns and trees. There are plenty of snack stalls located outside the stadium where you can sample traditional Indonesian food like satay chicken skewers, gado-gado and "kerak telor" rice fritters.
Getting there
Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is in the Jakarta CBD, a 30-minute drive from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Taxis are the fastest and easiest way to access Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Local buses run to Gelora Bung Karno, a five-minute walk from the complex.
